Mighty Moms is proud to partner with Similac and the Sister of Motherhood campaign dedicated to encouraging parents to move beyond judgments to focus on the strengths we each have in raising happy and healthy babies. They sponsored this post as part of that campaign.
Why is it that every time I see a mother preparing a bottle of formula, she feels the overwhelming desire to spill out how hard she tried to breastfeed, and a list of justifications designed to prove to me that she does actually care about the health of her baby?
Why does that formula-feeding mother assume I’m judging her?
Duh! It’s because people actually do judge her.
Here’s the thing, though, my formula-using sister. You can’t control other people. Yes, they’re going to quote all kinds of strong science that shares that breast is best for your baby. Yes, all that science is true. Breast is best.
But no one lives in a vacuum. There are a LOT of reasons why a woman would chose to use formula, and not choosing “the best” doesn’t automatically mean you’re a failure as a mom. (It’s “best” for your children to have a full-time governess who’s job is to focus on ONLY your child’s education, but how many parents are doing that?)
Today I’m going to PROVE to you, once and for all, that it’s time to give all that formula guilt and shame a strong kick in the patootie. And, even better, I’m going to use logic instead of emotion to do it.
It’s Not Breastfeeding vs. Water Feeding
Breastmilk is a powerhouse of good nutrients, we all know. But it’s not like the other option is water feeding. It’s not as though you’re options are Awesome and Awful. It’s more like Awesome (breastfeeding) and Astonishing (Similac’s new Pro-Advance and Pro-Sensitive).
Baby formulas have come a longggg way! Take, for example, the discovery and addition of 2’FL HMO prebiotics into Similac’s standard baby formulas. Revolutionary. This groundbreaking step is bridging the gap between formula and breast milk.
What’s this? You have no idea what I’m talking about with all my CAPITALIZATION and weird apostrophe placements? 2’FL HMO whaaaaa???
Ah… Let’s take a small commercial break from our regular “No More Formula Guilt” Oprahesque article to explain why these special HMOs are so vital to your feeding-esteem.
Prebiotics: A Formula’s Best Friend
You’ve heard about probiotics, right? The wonder-bacteria that makes healthy tummies so healthy?
Well, as a living organism, probiotics need to eat in order to survive. And what, exactly, is the 5-course meal those probiotic snobs are lining up to consume? A giant platter of prebiotics.
These Prebiotic Platters of Probiotic Pride are found under the silver domes called Human Milk Oligosaccharides*, also called HMOs because no one wants to have to spell that more than once.
These HMOs have previously only been found in significant numbers inside breastmilk. They are the reason breastfed babies have had stronger immune systems than their formula-fed cousins.
HMOs Deliver! (In 30 Minutes or It’s Free!)
Remember: 70% of your baby’s immune system exists in the gut, where those probiotics love to hang out in gluttony all day. There they sit, feasting on all the prebiotic HMOs they can find. But what about the hungry probiotics who don’t live in the gut?
Well, the special 2’FL HMOs will deliver their nutritional platters all over the body. It’s like Panera, delivering healthy food to starving probiotics all over your baby’s body, from her sweet little head to her darling tiny toes.

Ditch Formula Guilt
By Offering the Next Best Thing
If you decide not to breastfeed your baby, you can still provide your infant with a nutritional smorgasbord by offering the next best thing: A baby formula that has these special 2’FL HMOs included.
In the wide world of baby formulas, this means you’ve got two (yep, only two!) choices:
Similac is the only formula company who now offers this crucial immune booster, with two new products.
- Similac Pro-Advance: It’s non-GMO (not from genetically modified milk), and very-HMO (digestive happiness).
- Similac Pro-Sensitive: The same as the Advance, only partially broken down for babies who are prone to extra gas and fussiness.
Rise up, Mama.
Refute those Formula Guilt Goons.
Provide your baby with the latest in immune support from Similac, and then sit back and let all that formula shaming slide right off your back. Your baby is going to grow up big and strong. She’s going to be brilliant. He’s going to be fantastic.
You’ve made your decisions, for good reasons that no jury needs to hear.
Go forth! And feed with confidence!
