Technically we shouldn’t want to make other moms jealous.

But, let’s be honest…every mom in the depths of her soul wants someone to recognize just how adorable her Little Sugar is.

Isn’t that the REAL reason behind sending out birth announcements?

This is what we truly mean when we send those out:

Taking Newborn Photo Props to a Whole New Level

Of course, picking up some fabric, or a cute baby hat, or any of these newborn photo props is only the first step creating a legendary birth announcement.

How you place those newborn photo props makes a HUGE difference in the end result.  Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  1. Take the examples above or browse these other shots and uncover ways to add layers of curiosity to the standard baby shot.
  2. Make sure you bring in some aspect of texture to the photo.  It will highlight your baby’s smooth sweet skin.
  3. If you’re going to do some naked baby shots, make sure you’re shooting in a really warm room, otherwise he’s going to be cranky.  (Wouldn’t you? If you were naked in a cold room?)

  1. How adorable! I especially like the baby in a bird nest. Great ideas for baby announcements. My last baby announcement was rather boring in comparison.

    1. Doesn’t that picture just capture the “newborn-ness” of newborns so perfectly! I love how it makes the baby look like it could fit in the palm of your hand.

  2. Yeah… these shots really put my cell-phone picture birth announcements, designed under sleep deprivation, to shame. I know this isn’t a contest, but my favorite one is #9 because in those first few weeks, it’s all about how much the baby is gaining. Bring out the scales!

    1. Hahaha Gretchen! Well, I’m ashamed to admit that two of my children didn’t even GET birth announcements…so you still win. 🙂 I like the hammock too. I’ve never seen anything like that before!

  3. These are all so adorable! I may have to borrow my niece for a photo shoot next week, since my baby is a little too big for these poses. Can you give me some ideas for great pics of a toddler too? 🙂

    1. Kimberly has several pictures of older babies using the props that are really inspiring. Here’s one of an older baby in a birds nest. (Love the expression!) And here’s another of an older baby in a basket with a cute ruffle hat. I’m sure that since many of these are custom made, they would be easy to adjust for older babies!

Thanks for bringing up that point, Jen! Newborns are only newborns for such a short time! 🙂
