Sometime after your child’s second birthday, you’re going to have to make an important decision.

Do you give your child a glass of regular milk? Or search for a cow’s milk alternative instead?

I’ll go ahead and play my hand here. I think you should seriously consider using fortified goat’s milk over a glass of regular milk.

In the fifteen years I’ve been researching and writing about baby and toddler formulas, I’ve formed some pretty strong opinions about dairy sources.

Allow me a few seconds to prove why shelling out a few extra quarters to give your child a fortified goat’s milk is worth the investment.

3 Benefits to Using a Cow’s Milk Alternative

I realize I’m being rather bold in my claim here. I’m bucking tradition.

Let me offer 3 benefits you will enjoy when you make the switch

Benefit #1: Fewer Food Fights

Something terrible happens when your child turns two.

He develops opinions. Strong ones.

Before, you could shovel spoonfuls of mushed peas and hard-boiled yolks into your baby’s mouth to your heart’s content. Now…most if it ends up on the floor. (Or worse, the walls, your hair, the ceiling…)

Call me selfish, but I’ve found one of my favorite “perks” about using Junior Nutrition over regular milk is that kids love the taste. Goat milk is naturally sweeter than milk, which means kids enjoy the taste without having to add any sugar or sweetener.

My toddler likes the taste and it’s very easy to mix, even in colder water. It does not clump like some other toddler formulas, so he can drink it from a straw. I also like that it’s a 1:1 mixing ratio, giving us flexibility in how many ounces to make each time.

Of course, anything can get boring after a while, so Kabrita asked moms to submit their favorite recipes on using with Junior Nutrition as a cow’s milk alternative. This recipe for Quick Goat Milk Chocolate Overnight Oats will get the morning started off right. Or, for a less-prep option, try the Strawberry Banana Smoothie below.

Benefit #2: Bye, Bye, Constipation

According to studies like this one, up to 28% of all children struggle with constipation. That means, of the ten kids in your preschooler’s kindermusik class, three are sitting on a colon packed with backed-up boulders.

Constipated kids are grumpy. Irritable. Done with the world. And why shouldn’t they be? Their tummies hurt!

It all comes down to protein structures.

When your child drinks a glass of cow’s milk, the curd protein will form a tight ball in the gut before the stomach acids start working to break the protein down into useable chains. Think: block of cheddar.

When your child drinks a glass of fortified goat’s milk, the whey is scattered into a variety of small clusters. Think: cottage cheese.

Which do you think your child’s body will have an easier time digesting? A block of cheddar? Or a spoonful of cottage cheese?

And that’s why Kabrita Junior Nutrition has such an excellent reputation for helping kids with constipation and gas.

Benefit #3: It’s the Enemy of Eczema

Eczema (or atopic dermatitis if you want to go all fancy-pants) affects up to 9.6 million children in the United States. (And two of those are mine.)

The skin gets inflamed and red, which triggers a vicious cycle of scratching that leads to inflammation, which leads to more scratching, which leads to… I think you see where this is going.

There are a few natural ways to treat your child’s eczema. A mild sensitivity to cow milk may be linked to eczema, and goat milk could be a promising alternatively for these children.

Baby has had terrible eczema, but it’s clearing up since we switched to Kabrita. It automatically ships to my door and I haven’t been stressed about supply issues. The quality makes me feel less guilty about not breast feeding.

Eczema may be linked to food sensitivities with cow milk products, wheat, eggs, soy, nuts, and seeds, so it makes sense that choosing a cow’s milk alternative like Junior Nutrition may have an effect.

What if My Child has a Milk Protein Allergy?

First of all, if you suspect your child has a milk protein allergy, head over to the doctor’s office for a test.

It is actually not very common for kids to have a milk protein allergy.  Usually, what kids have is something called Cow Milk Sensitivity.  Here are the symptoms of CMS:

  • Bloating & Gas
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Respiratory Congestion
  • Eczema

If you suspect or your doctor confirms that your child does, in fact, have a milk protein allergy (and not just sensitivity), Kabrita Junior Nutrition isn’t for you. Unfortunately, goat milk protein can also provoke an allergic reaction.

What if My Child is Lactose Intolerant?

In the same way, if your child has been diagnosed with lactose intolerance, Kabrita’s Junior Nutrition isn’t going to be a good cow’s milk alternative for your child, because it contains lactose as its primary carbohydrate.

Where Can I Get Kabrita Junior Nutrition?

The majority of kids, though, have only a cow’s milk sensitivity and will be fine switching to Kabrita Junior Nutrition.

The best way to order Kabrita Junior Nutrition is at the Kabrita USA website here.

That said, if you’re an Amazon fanatic, it’s available there as well.

Kabrita Junior Nutrition is the Best Cow’s Milk Alternative on the Market

In the beginning of this article, I made some pretty daring claims about using a cow’s milk alternative.

Yes, I, a mother in the dairy-state of Wisconsin, is telling you to skip pouring your child a glass of cow’s milk and mix up a sippy cup of nutrient-dense, gut-friendly, skin-happy Kabrita Junior Nutrition
